Ethiopian Airlines is mostly referred as Ethiopian and is Ethiopia's national airline and flag carrier. The government of Ethiopia completely owned the airlines and managed it since its inception until 1965. 21 December 1945 was the day that the airline was formally established and operations followed the next year. The cargo division managed by the airline was awarded as being “The African Cargo Airline of the Year 2011”.
